David sought out one thing from the Lord and that was to dwell or remain in God’s presence. God’s presence was so important to Moses that He declared that He would not go anywhere without God’s presence.
Exodus 33:15–16 (NKJV)
15 Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. 16 For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.”
When we seek God’s presence that means we are committed to coming to God and meeting with Him face to face. We can read our Bible, sing a song or even pray without ever really trying to meet with God face to face. In other words we are doing the right things but we are not even thinking about God when we do them. Seeking God’s presence means that we constantly have our heart and our mind set on the Lord. It means we have made a conscious choice to direct our heart toward God.
