Inviting Darkness: Why We Choose Not to Watch Horror Movies”

In a world where entertainment choices abound, it’s crucial for believers to discern what we allow into our hearts and minds. As Rohi Christian Church, we stand firm in our conviction to guard against the influence of darkness, especially when it comes to horror movies and themes of the demonic.

Scripture reminds us in Ephesians 6:12 that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Horror movies often sensationalize and glorify these dark spiritual forces, blurring the lines between entertainment and reality.

As followers of Christ, we are called to be wise stewards of our hearts and minds (Proverbs 4:23). Watching horror movies, even as a form of entertainment, can inadvertently open doors for demonic influence to creep into our lives. It’s not just about avoiding a temporary scare; it’s about safeguarding our spiritual well-being.

When we expose ourselves to images and themes of darkness, we provide a foothold for the enemy to gain entry into our lives. 1 Peter 5:8 warns us to “be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” We don’t want to give him any opportunity to wreak havoc in our lives.

Choosing not to watch horror movies isn’t about being prudish or judgmental; it’s about honoring God with our choices and prioritizing the purity and sanctity of our hearts. Let’s fill our minds with things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable (Philippians 4:8), rather than allowing ourselves to be drawn into the darkness of the world.

So as “The First Omen” hits theaters, let’s remember the importance of guarding our hearts and minds against the influence of darkness. Let’s choose light over darkness, love over fear, and Christ over the enemy. Our spiritual well-being is worth far more than a fleeting thrill.
